Top 10 Favorite 2017 Stadium Club Cards

I haven't been blogging for all that long, but I've read enough blog posts in my life to know that Topps Stadium Club is synonymous with nearly every baseball card blogger. Ever since the brand was revived a couple years ago, it has become increasingly popular amongst collectors, many bloggers even naming it their favorite set year after year.

I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of the set until the 2016 set was released. I found that set so well done in many ways. Great cardstock and thickness of cards, minimal yet well-done set design, and of course, the eye-catching pictures that Stadium Club is known for.

2017 Stadium Club is nothing to sneeze at either. I rediscovered my liking of the set a couple days ago when looking through what I had of the product from last year. As I began looking through them, I began separating the cards that I liked the most, and after making some tough decisions, I unintentionally came up with 10 cards that I liked the most. So I thought, why not do a top 10?

So, here they are. My top 10 favorite Stadium Club cards from last years' set.

Enjoy.

#10 Jeff Bagwell
Empty stadium shots with bright blue skies were big back in the 70's and 90's, but have died down since. You don't usually see them together on a card. That's what makes Stadium Club so great. It's just plain unconventional. Also, just a side note, but I really like the Astros jersey he's wearing on this card.

#9 Dave Winfield
Stadium Club is the perfect product to finally give these old-school and colorful jerseys the attention they deserve. You can get away with this brown and yellow jersey in this set, but not necessarily in every other set. And it works well too, a testament to the attention to detail used for this set.

#8 Billy Hamilton
You've probably seen this card before. After all, it has become rather iconic since the release of this set last year. The blurry background is done to show off Billy Hamilton's insane speed. Yet even with a blurry and unclear background, this card still looks great and was pulled off rather well.

#7 Ian Desmond
By deciding to use shades of purple and black that match that of the Rockies jerseys, Topps created one the smartest cards in the entire Stadium Club brand's history. They were smart enough not to be random with their colors, but choose the team colors because they knew it would look phenomenal, and they were right.

#6 Johnny Bench
Any baseball card set can make good catcher cards, even Panini. If Topps wanted to impress us, they would have to make a catcher card of Johhny Bench so incredible that it blew every other catcher card away. This closeup of the 2-time NL MVP certainly did the job.

#5 Kris Bryant
The early 80's jerseys known as the "pajama uniforms" were an impressive choice for a Stadium Club card. Why they decided to take the picture in front of the bright green and yellow A's dugout, I'll never know.

#4 Chris Sale
I don't know whose idea it was to shine these bright lights on Chris Sale. All I know is that person deserves a raise and thinking about it, this card actually appears way better in person.

#3 Giancarlo Stanton
You can never go wrong with an action-shot of an outfielder making an insane catch. Especially when there is a big sausage company logo in the background.

#2 Rod Carew
Not only do I love the fact that Carew is signing for young fans here, but I've also grown to appreciate how good of a job Topps does to make these older images look fit for a modern photography-based card set. This picture certainly didn't look this great in the 70's, but Topps made it look impeccable for 2017.

#1 Ted Williams
Due to the fact that the card is in black and white and is taken at a nearly perfect angle for such a creative card, I may have to label this one of the greatest baseball cards I've ever seen in my life.

Also, notice how there's no logo in sight on this card. Topps has the license, yet they are able to create a flawless card without a logo on it. Take notes, Panini.
