The Red Sox are currently performing as they did in the 2016 ALDS as they are trailing the Houston Astros 7-2 right now.
I knew the Red Sox hadn't been playing as well as the Astros, but I had no idea it was this bad. Especially with their ace Chris Sale on the mound (who hasn't been an ace as of late). I thought they'd at least put up a fight.
It really all started with an Alex Bregman home run right off the bat (literally) right in the bottom of the 1st. 1-0 didn't seem like a big deal.
Until MVP candidate Jose Altuve hit one directly after him.
Not only did Altuve hit 1 homer off Sale, but he hit a 2nd home run off Sale later that game, which by then extended the lead to 5-2.
Update. He just hit another. It's 8-2 Astros.
Sigh, I guess there's always tomorrow.
I shouldn't shame the Red Sox pitching for the whole post, to be fair Sandy Leon and Rafael Devers drove in a run each. That's the only reason why they aren't being shutout. They both did there part, I just wish everyone else did.
And even though he didn't drive in any runs, Evan Gattis hit a crucial single for the Astros that loaded the bases. It seems like everyone on that team is doing well. It's so frustrating how good a team is. When have the Red Sox had a team full of stars (COUGH COUGH 2016 COUGH COUGH).
Anyway the single most frustrating moment of the game (besides Pedroia's dumbfounded baserunning decision and Nunez being carried off the field due to injury) was Jackie Bradley Jr's amazing catch in CF being called back. To be fair it was pretty close, but I'll stand by my opinion that he had it.
Well, today was a disappointment but if there's one thing the Red Sox have taught me before. Never say never.
